Gombe State Nigeria: On January 8, 2018 we were contacted by the Agency for Community Development about a wonderful opportunity to change thousands of lives. The World Bank is offering to provide, for selected communities three to four wells and a health center or block of classrooms according to the communities greatest need. Each project will cost $28,000 but World Bank will provide each program for only 10% of the total cost, or $2,800. (Our discounted price to drill just one well in Nigeria is $3,000.)
Even though the qualifying amount is only 10% of the total cost, it is beyond the ability of these communities to pay. The recent influx of more than 500,000 refugees from three bordering states ravaged by the terrorist activity of Boko Haram, has caused the existing environment of poverty to become even worse in Gombe State.
The Agency for Community Development ask if we could help with 9 of these projects and we said yes.
All projects were completed in 2018 resulting in 25 clean water wells, five new health centers and the expansion of two more, numerous blocks of school classrooms and exam halls. This partnership is scheduled to continue in 2019 so stay tuned for more exciting details.
